Education grants for college

Education grants for college can come from many different sources, including the government, private organizations and businesses, and colleges and universities. They’re also awarded for a number of different reasons ranging from financial need to gender or ethnicity to a student’s chosen academic major. One of the main reasons education grants are awarded to college students though is for academic achievement during either high school or college. Many good education grants are offered by the specific college or university that a student chooses to attend, but many national grant programs offer funding for students with an extensive record of academic achievement.

The following are just a few examples of national education grant programs for students who have excelled academically:

  • Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship – This program offers one of the best education grant programs for high school seniors. Students who display academic achievement and the potential to be leaders can receive grant money for all 4 years of their time in college.
  • Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarships – This organization’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships offer grant money to students who excelled academically at a community college and now want to transfer to a four-year college or university.
  • Academic Competitiveness Grants – These grants are offered by the U.S. Department of Education and are awarded to students who excel in challenging classes in both high school and the first years of college.

Some national education grant programs also focus on academic achievement in certain fields. The following are some of the programs focused on students pursuing specific career paths:

  • Siemens Math, Science, and Technology Competition – This competition for high school seniors was created to award grant money to students who show academic success in math, science, and technology courses and plan to do research in one of the fields during college and beyond.
  • Intel Science Talent Search – This program about education grants offers grants for high school seniors who have excelled in any area of science and have completed projects within the field.
  • Morris K. Udall Foundation College Scholarships – This organization’s scholarship program offers grant money for college to students in their last years of high school that have shown academic excellence in any field focused on the environment.
  • Presidential Scholars – This education grant program is offered through the U.S. Department of Education and offers funding for high school seniors who have succeeded academically and shown talent in visual, creative, or performing arts.
  • The National SMART Grant – This grant program is designed to provide professional academic writing services to students who excel in courses related to science, engineering, technology, or mathematics and plan to complete a degree program in one of the areas.
