A Child’s Perspective

by Jen

We have heard from many teachers on this site, why they teach. So I thought I would ask random students around my elementary school why they think their teacher teaches.

Here is what they said:

“They love teaching because it helps kids learn and grow up to be better people.”

“Teaching is their job and a better way of life. I f we didn’t have school we wouldn’t get an education and get a job or a driver’s license.”

“Teachers can learn new things everyday in school.”

“Teachers teach because they want children to be very smart and to have a good education. They care about us and want us to be smart, so if we want to be a teacher, then we can help children learn.”

“My teacher cares about us a lot. She plays music while we work.”

“My teacher teaches because she loves children and she wants us to learn.”

“My teacher loves math. I think it is just dreadful. I’d rather read. But she loves math and wants us to love it too.”

My teacher teaches to help us go to college and to learn how to read and learn science and math.”

My teacher teaches so we can learn and grow up and be a great doctor, a vet, a highway inspector or a teacher. And when you are in high school or college you will know all the things you need to know.”

I hope you have enjoyed reading their perspective. What would the kids in your class or school say? What would your own children say about their teacher?
